The Department of Accounting and Finance at the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Eastern University, Sri Lanka was gazette (Gazette No: 2412/34) on 29th November 2024 to establish as a new Department with approval of the University Grants Commission at its 1122nd meeting held on 04th April 2024.
The Vision of Department of Accounting and Finance is to enhance the knowledge and skills in Accounting and Finance and motivate student-centered learning with field experience while preparing the undergraduates with multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills essential to overcome the challenges in the field of Accounting and Finance nationally and internationally.
The Accounting field is transforming from traditional bookkeeping to advanced digital systems such as Computerized Accounting and Cloud-Based Accounting. In addition, the Accounting scope has expanded to encompass integrated accounting, which incorporates economic, social and environmental considerations. In light of these developments, providing a deeper understanding of these emerging areas among undergraduate students is vital. Moreover, there is a pressing need to elevate Accounting and Finance research to an international level as indicated in indexed journals, and it is essential to apply those research findings in the local context to facilitate globalization. The Department of Accounting and Finance enables us to provide in-depth knowledge and training in areas such as Business Analytics and Financial Modelling, Financial Derivatives, Forensic Accounting, Financial Reporting, Digital Accounting, and Wealth Management to our Accounting and Finance undergraduates and it will equip them with necessary skills to compete effectively in the job market.
